LightGirl for Maya: About

The new version of LightGirl has been re-written from the ground up for optimization and speed and is now partially implemented as a plug-in.

Overview
LightGirl seamlessly integrates into Maya using familiar Attribute Editor style controls to access common attributes of lights in one location.

Discrete
The Discrete view streamlines the LightGirl UI while allowing global access to attribute modification.

Manager
The Manager is a compact floating UI showing a list of active lights; clicking on a light in the Manager list selecte the light.

HSV
Hue, Saturation nd Value sliders gie you control over the full color and value range of the scene from one integrated UI.
LightGirl Multiplexer

RC
Relative Control of color and intensity across loaded lights. Changing the color explicitely colors all lights in the scene with the same value, but the intensty slide adds to or subtracts from the current setting.

Customizable control of light attributes arranged exactly how you want to work. The Multiplexer is your custom Attrubute Editor.

The following is a list of new features and major changes that will be available in the next release of LightGirl:

  • Speed - LightGirl now operates much faster than previous versions
  • Optimized efficient code
  • Support for 3rd party renderers
    • RenderMan: Add and set common light specific attributes
    • Mental Ray: Set common light specific attributes
  • Globally control all lights and all light properties in a single UI
  • Sheet - A permanently connected Attribute Spreadsheet of loaded lights
  • Manager - Floating small UI for quick light selection
  • Attribute Editor mode vs. Discrete mode
    • AE mode shows lights and light properties in a familiar Attribute Editor style with the additional option of customizing which properties are displayed.
    • Discrete mode shows a list of loaded lights and allows you to visually and globally control any light property in a UI optimized for speed and space.
  • Lights can be loaded via the following methods:
    • All lights
    • By light type
    • Selected
    • Visible
    • Inverse
  • Loaded lights can be selected by the same options as light loading (above).
  • HSV - Adjust Hue, Saturation and Value across all lights.
  • RC - Allows relative control of intensity across all lights.
  • Multiplexer - Allows visual control of any property on multiple lights with immediate feedback in a separate UI.
  • Light sets allow you to save any number of loaded light configurations that can be recalled withing the current scene.  Light sets are saved with the scene file.
  • Lights can be auto-loaded into the interface on selection and/or creation.
  • Sorting and display options.
    • By name
    • By type
  • Option to display of long or short names
  • Create lights at
    • Origin
    • Camera position and orientation
  • Many other time saving features
