Installation errors regarding read only files?
There is an installation issue on Windows Vista and Windows 7 that is related to the user access level. If you receive an error please try right clicking on the installer and select, "Run as administrator." This should allow you to install properly. Alternatively temporarily disabling UAC (User Access Control) will address the issue.
Loading the LightGirl Plug-in
LightGirl can be loaded from the Plug-in Manager. When the LightGirl plug-in loads successfully a new shelf is created with icons that launch LightGirl and its features. Note that you may need to display shelves. Alternatively, LightGirl can be launched by typing "lightGirl" in the Script Editor or Command Prompt. Note that there are currently no menu entries in Maya for LightGirl.
Beta Licensing
LightGirl is updated as often as possible and it is recommended that you check back often to download the most recent release. The beta version expires at the end of each month at which point a new release becomes available with an extended expiration date.
Beta licensing issues
If you are running Windows Vista, please ensure that LightGirl is installed with administrator privileges (right-click on the installer and select "Run as Administrator"). Check that the install location has a license file in
<install path>\license\lightGirl.lic.
Also, make sure to uninstall previous versions before installing the latest release.
Where are the plug-ins?
Plug-ins do not appear in the default plug-ins directories. The plug-ins are installed into a folder called plug-ins located in the folder in which LightGirl is installed and are recognized by Maya via MAYA_MODULE_PATH variable. You shouldn't need to move the plug-ins from the install location. Starting Maya after the installation should automatically find the plug-ins. If you start Maya after installing and Maya does not recognize them then please let us know.
What about a 64 bit version?
64 bit versions are available for all applicable Maya versions.
Which version of LightGirl should I install?
If you are running a 64 bit Maya version then use the 64 bit version of LightGirl. Similarly if you are running a 32 bit version of Maya then use the 32 bit version of LightGirl. Note that 32-bit LightGirl will run in 32 bit Maya running on either a 32 or 64 bit OS. Always install the latest available version of LightGirl.
What about OS X and Linux versions?
OS X and Linux versions are now available in the download area.
